Unlearning Diets and Relearning Trust
Our bodies are truly incredible machines. They work hard to keep our lungs breathing, our hearts beating, our wounds healing, and a million other little miracles we so often take for granted. When you have a cut on your finger, you don’t question your body’s ability to heal or try to manipulate it to work faster. Well, the same goes for eating!
Contrary to what diet culture may tell you, you CAN rely on your body to give you all the necessary signals you need to make food choices. When you can tune out the noise of diet culture, you can actually tune in to the needs of yourself much more effortlessly.
I’m guessing you probably feel even just a little resistance to the idea of eating based off of these seemingly invisible cues, but with consistent practice, you can start hearing these signs much louder. It can be scary to not track your food or eat according to a plan out of fear of uncontrollably gaining weight.
So just what are the signs your body sends? Great question! You might feel:
✨ an emptiness in your stomach - maybe accompanied by some gentle growls
✨ a dip in energy - you wouldn’t expect your car to run on empty!
✨a lack of concentration - often comes in the form of an afternoon slump! You might just need a quick snack to hold you over until dinner instead of the usual cup of black coffee.
