The Reason That Diets Fu#k With You And Make You Overeat Even More
When people are fed up with themselves and food is making them crazy they typically start a diet. But this is a mistake…
Diets are not the answer.
You’ve heard me say this before, but it is worth repeating: Diets don’t work for long-term weight loss, and they do absolutely nothing to help you stop emotional eating. In fact diets make things worse.
But this time of year, diet marketing is at an all-time high, and if you’re someone who wants to stop emotional eating and lose weight, it is hard to not get sucked into the promises that each diet offers. Some diets say that low-fat foods are what you need. Other diets say you should eat lots of fat in order to lose weight.
You’ve probably already tried many different diets that gave you conflicting advice such as to cut calories, go vegan, eat more meat, do a lemon-water-and-cayenne-pepper cleanse, weigh and measure your food, skip meals, eat six mini meals, and so on.
Everyone is talking about keto and paleo diets, intermittent fasting, good ol’ Weight Watchers, and more. As you already know, none of these diets work over the long-term; plus, they don’t teach you anything about how to stop emotional eating.
Why is that?..
It’s because diets don’t fix emotional eating—in fact, in some cases, all that point counting and those food restrictions can make it worse. Diets insinuate you don’t know what your body is hungry for, so you have to rely on a food plan or food rules. But doing this just keeps struggling, confused and dependent on the next diet that comes along, which won’t work either.
So what is the solution?
The answer is mindful eating.
Mindful eating is an ancient practice that changes the way you think about food, the way you eat food, and the types and amount of food you eat.
Where we live in the U.S., food is available almost everywhere. And if it’s actually not in front of you some advertisement will be there to make you want to eat food—even if you are not hungry.
Each day, we make hundreds of food decisions on autopilot rather than with total awareness. Mindful eating creates an awareness that places you in charge of what to eat, what not to eat, how much to eat, and when to stop eating.
I created The Freedom From Emotional Eating Formula so you can learn how to quickly and easily transform your relationship with food.
It’s based on mindful eating and some other psychological tricks that will change your brain and body to eat like a person who has never had issues with food. As some of my clients have said “you help me eat like a normal person”.
Yep -it’s a total game changer.
We begin by asking ourselves a simple yet profound question: “Am I hungry?”
For now, just see whether you can create a new habit of asking yourself “am I hungry?” before you eat anything.
Whether the answer is “yes,” “no,” or “I don’t know” doesn’t matter—just practice asking. This is the first step in becoming a mindful eater and get freedom from emotional eating.
